We cross-posted in the most profound way possible, I think. :)
I just responded to your call to affirm the importance of the role that library science can play here. I can find stuff about digital preservation, which is a hot and very open conversation in libraries (read: you might not be happy with how un-solved this problem is). Digital humanities might help us, too, as they are very concerned with what preservations of certain kinds of conversations looks like. Let me see what I can do. My goal is not to overwhelm anyone, but to suggest a couple of readings that might help. If we would prefer I shifted my goal and attempted to be exhaustive, I can do that, too.
With my reference librarian hat on, I think your wording is just fine. However someone chooses to present a need is completely okay with me. Mostly, I want people who are better positioned to eventually construct solutions to keep talking near/to me and I can find stuff that slots into their information needs.
